| Community Colleges: One option for starting work on your Bachelors degree Some students are interested in starting their education at community college. Then they will transfer to a four-year college or university to complete their Bachelors degree program. Leaders at the colleges in Nebraska strive to make the transfer process as effortless as possible. In 1995, 25 postsecondary institutions in Nebraska signed the Nebraska Transfer Initiative. The Initiative is a cooperative effort by public and private colleges to make the transfer of students as easy as possible. The focus has been on the transfer from Associate degree programs to Bachelors degree programs. The Community Colleges in Nebraska have arranged transfer or articulation agreements with four-year colleges and universities in Nebraska and, in some cases, surrounding states. The Community Colleges have developed support services to assist in the transfer process. Faculty and staff are assigned as advisors to work with students who plan to transfer to other colleges and universities to complete their degrees. The advisors and students use transfer guides and web pages to determine if courses are included in the articulation agreements. They also assist students with planning class schedules.
