Design in the Round Learning Activity
     

Overview

Design in the Round is a hands-on activity to help students learn about some of the work related to the Arts, Communication, and Information Systems career field. One of the objectives of the activity is to provide the opportunity for students to do work tasks and then to reflect upon those tasks. The exploration activity is set up to be completed in one class period. The activity could used to introduce the career field.

Materials and Supplies

  • Rulers

  • Compasses

  • Colored pencils, markers, or pens

  • White drawing paper

Instructions for Educators

1. Have the students/clients draw a three to four inch circle any place on the paper.
2. Have them create a drawing, diagram, image, etc. on the paper in which the circle is included. The completed projected will be displayed in the classroom.
3. Once the drawing is completed, have them complete the “Thinking about Design in the Round” activity.
4. Discuss how interests, abilities, and skills are related to career options and choices.
5. Have the students/clients save the “Design in the Round” activity in their career portfolios.
6. An optional activity would be to have students/clients, who are interested in this career field, explore occupations related to this activity or the Arts, Communication, and Information Systems field.

Making the Design Instructions

1. On a white piece of drawing paper, use a compass to draw a three- to four-inch circle any place on the paper.
2. Create a drawing, diagram, image, etc. on the paper in which the circle is included. Use other tools and/or colors to complete the project. The completed projected will be displayed in the classroom.
3. Once the drawing is created, respond to the statements and questions in the section below.
